Probability

The probability calculation lets you calculate the probability of survival or death of a person based on a given life table.

Note: The life expectancy at a given age can be looked up in the ex column of the life table.
To open a life table and view its data, select Life Tables from the File menu, then select the desired life table in the Life table pop-up menu.

Results

• survival to age x
• survival to age y
• death before age x
• death between ages x and y

Examples

Find the probability that John aged 30 will survive to ages 60 and 65.

Results Survival to age x: 87.1648 %
  Survival to age y: 80.8848 %

Answer: there is a 87.1648 % probability that John survives to age 60 and a 80.8848 % probability that he will survive to age 65.

   

Find the probability that John will die before age 60.
Find the probability that he will die between ages 60 and 65.

Answer: there is a 12.8352 % probability that John will die before age 60 and a 6.2800 % probability that he will die between ages 60 and 65.
